Share one version with beta readers and editors

Journzy lets you share your manuscript with beta readers or an editor one exact version at a time. They see only that version and comment on the exact passage, while your live book stays yours alone.

Share your manuscript with beta readers, not your work in progress

The Share this version button sits on every snapshot and every version in Versions. The person you invite sees only that version, never later changes. To let them read new text, you share a newer version.

Access lasts 7, 30 or 90 days, and Revoke access ends it at once. The Shared tab in Versions lists every access you have given. Sharing is on the Free plan.

Two roles: reader and editor

A reader reads the version, and you can let them comment with Let them comment. An editor comments and suggests changes. Either way, the person signs in with the email you invited, and a free account is enough. They find what you shared under Shared with me.

Readers and editors cannot download the shared text, search it or run the AI on it. Each book allows up to 100 active shares. All of this is on the Free plan.

Comments anchored to the passage

Your reader selects a passage and comments on it. The comment stays attached to those words, even when you write around them or add paragraphs before them. You read the notes next to your text and decide what to do with each one.

  • Accept into my book. A suggested change enters your text and is saved in the history like any other edit.
  • Decline or Mark as done. You close the note and keep writing.
  • Copy the suggested text. If you edited that part after the shared version, Journzy does not guess. It lets you make the change by hand.

When you rewrite the commented words, the note shows Passage not found and keeps its quote. You can attach it to a new passage. Free plan.

Writing with an editor at the same time

You can also co-edit in real time. Two people work in the same scene and each sees where the other is. It is on the Free plan.

How it works

  1. Open Versions and pick the version or snapshot you want them to read.
  2. Choose Share this version, enter your beta reader's email, and pick the role and the time limit.
  3. They sign in with that email and open the version from Shared with me.
  4. You read their notes next to your text and decide on each one.

Frequently asked questions

Does my beta reader have to pay?

No. A free Journzy account is enough, using the same email you invited.

Can they see what I write after I share?

No. They see only the version you shared. To let them read more, you share a newer version.

How do I take access back?

Choose Revoke access and it ends at once. If you do nothing, it expires after the 7, 30 or 90 days you picked.

Which plan do I need?

The Free plan. You do not need Author to share versions, assign roles or receive comments.
