Book cover design, from brief to cover
A cover starts with a clear brief. Journzy walks you from that brief to the cover set on your book. You have three ways to get that image.
- A creator from the directory. You write the brief and send it to a listed illustrator or designer. The directory is free.
- AI illustration. On the Author plan, Journzy generates the image with AI. The illustration is only the image; the title and final choice are yours.
- Your own image. If you already have a cover, you upload it.
A directory of illustrators and designers
Every illustrator and designer in the directory is reviewed before being listed. You choose someone who fits your book and send your brief. The directory is on the Free plan.
Character portraits and AI illustration
The Author plan also generates AI portraits of your characters. The AI illustrates. It never writes your text.
Your cover in the EPUB
The EPUB you export carries the cover you have set, whether you uploaded it or generated it with AI. The KDP-ready checks warn you if the image is smaller than 625 × 1000 pixels or if its ratio strays far from 1 to 1.6.
If the cover is an illustration from Journzy's AI, the export asks you to mark images as AI-generated. For print, the full wrap cover with the spine is prepared separately. Journzy's PDF is the book interior.

Does Journzy design the cover for me?
No. Journzy takes you from the brief to the cover and lets you choose: a creator from the directory, an AI illustration or your own image. You decide which one stays.
Which plan do I need?
The creator directory is on the Free plan. AI illustration and character portraits are on the Author plan.
Can I use my own cover?
Yes. You upload the image and the EPUB includes it.
Do I have to disclose an AI cover?
Yes, when you export. If the cover is an illustration from Journzy's AI, the export asks you to mark images as AI-generated.
