Grammar and style checks made for fiction

Journzy is a readability checker and style checker built for fiction, in English and Spain Spanish. It marks the passage, explains the rule and suggests a fix, but it never rewrites your text.

Grammar, style and typography checks for fiction

Journzy checks the chapter you have open as you write. The Proofreading page lists the findings for the whole book, text by text. Every finding shows the passage, the rule and where it comes from. All of this is on the Free plan.

  • Typography. Curly quotation marks and apostrophes, an em dash in place of a double hyphen, the ellipsis character in place of three periods, double spaces, and spacing around punctuation.
  • Grammar. “Could of” instead of “could have,” plus dictionary and spelling checks.
  • Style. Redundant phrases and nonstandard usage.
  • Spanish books. Journzy follows the RAE: angular quotes, dialogue dashes and the narrator's dashes, plus dequeísmo and queísmo.

Repetition, rhythm, cliché and voice lenses

Four lenses in the Craft panel read the open text and update after every save. Each result points to the exact sentences. None of them writes for you. They are on the Free plan too.

  • Repetition. The same word within 25 words, overused words, whole phrases that come back, and three sentences in a row that open the same way.
  • Rhythm. Sentences over 40 words, runs of five or more sentences of nearly the same length, and narration paragraphs over 250 words.
  • Clichés and crutch words. Stock phrases such as “cold as ice” and filler words that keep returning.
  • Voice. Compares each text with the usual range of your book and tells you when it drifts outside it.

Readability checker, lexical metrics and your voice profile

The readability checker uses the Flesch scale for English and the INFLESZ scale for Spanish, from 100 words. Journzy also measures average sentence length, the share of dialogue, vocabulary variety and adverbs per thousand words.

Once your book has about 3,000 words, Journzy builds your voice profile: your usual range on those measures. The craft report sums up the whole book. The synonym finder works in English and Spanish and copies the word to your clipboard. It never inserts it into your text. All of this is on the Free plan.

Advanced AI review on the Author plan

The Author plan adds an AI review that checks spelling and grammar in context. It only points out errors. It never writes for you. Plan details are on the pricing page.

How it works

  1. Write in the editor. Journzy marks findings as you go, and the Proofreading page gathers them for the whole book.
  2. Open a finding. You see the passage, the rule and the reason it is marked.
  3. Decide: Fix changes only the marked characters. You can also choose Edit, Intentional, Dismiss, or Ignore this rule in this book.
  4. Choose Check the other texts when you want a pass over the whole book.

Frequently asked questions

Does Journzy rewrite my text?

No. It flags, explains and suggests. Fix changes only the marked characters, and only when you click it. Synonyms are copied to your clipboard, never inserted.

What if I repeated a word on purpose?

Mark the finding as intentional, dismiss it, or ignore that rule in this book. A narrator can repeat a word for a good reason, and Journzy respects that.

Does it work in English and in Spanish?

Yes. The rules, the dictionary and the lenses work in English and in Spain Spanish. Your project language decides which ones apply.

What does the Free plan include, and what does Author add?

Free includes every rule, the dictionary, the lenses, the metrics and the synonym finder. Author adds the AI review in context.
