Every version of your novel, safe
Journzy keeps a version history for writers: every save of your novel is a revision. Take a snapshot before a big change, compare two versions, and restore an earlier one without losing what you wrote since.
Version history for writers: every save counts
Each time Journzy saves your book, it creates a version that is never overwritten. The history groups nearby saves, and “Show each save” lists them one by one. Every version shows where it came from: writing, book structure, import, offline sync or a restored version. All of this is on the Free plan.
Snapshots, compare and restore
A snapshot keeps one version of your book under a name you choose, such as “Before the second draft.” It never changes. You can save up to 500 per book.
To compare, pick two versions, or one version and your current text. Journzy shows the texts that were added, removed and changed, along with the chapters and their order.
Before you restore, Journzy shows how many texts will change, return or leave the book. Then it saves your current text in a snapshot called “Before restoring a version.” A restore creates a new version and deletes nothing from the history. All of this is on the Free plan.
Archive instead of delete
When you archive a chapter, a text or a story bible entry, it does not vanish. It goes to the recovery bin and waits there for 30 days, and you can restore it to its place. After that, Journzy deletes it for good. This is on the Free plan.
A backup of the whole project
A backup gathers your books, story bible, references and images into one .zip file. You download it while it is available, and you can restore it as a new project. Free plan.
How it works
- Write as you always do. Every save creates a version.
- Before a big change, open Versions and choose Save a snapshot. Give it a name.
- Compare the snapshot with your current text to see what changed.
- If you prefer the earlier version, choose Restore this version and confirm.
- To let someone read one exact version, use Share this version. The beta readers page explains how.
Frequently asked questions
Do I lose anything when I restore a version?
No. Before it restores, Journzy saves your current text in a snapshot. The restore creates a new version, and the earlier history stays intact.
How many snapshots can I save?
Up to 500 per book. A name can have 120 characters, and you can add a note of up to 1,000 characters.
Can I get back a chapter I archived?
Yes, for 30 days. The recovery bin returns it to its place. After that, it is deleted for good.
What happens to text I write offline?
When your connection returns, what you wrote appears in the history with the source Offline sync.
